Losing my phone (and sanity) in Getty Villa

J. Paul Getty, the oil tycoon has built a generational wealth, and made two beautiful places that i love to visit on my free days: Getty Villa and Getty Center in Pacific Palisades and in Los Angeles mountain hill where one can see the breathtaking view of the LA valley, easily accessed via trolley.

These places are so beautiful to walk around and take your attention away from other things IF you’re into actually reading and learning about the artifacts, like me!

Long story short, this is like a guilt ridden journal about how I lost my work phone inside the Getty Villa. Sadly, “find my iphone” does NOT WORK when there is no data signal or wifi connection. I remember putting my phone inside my bag the whole time, but who knows? Maybe i reached into check on it and left it somewhere by the Ocean View Terrace, or maybe inside Egypt artifact room, or maybe when i was getting a peach soda by the coffee cart…

The museum closes at 5PM sharp, and by the time we got out of the place toward the closing time and drove toward the Santa Monica beach, I realized that my work phone was not inside the purse. Panicking, I tried to use the “find my iPhone” but the Getty Villa is like Bermuda triangle – and I mean it! Your phone will go to SOS mode and you WILL lose all sorts of communication there – your phone is unable to get detected on its whereabouts.

My point is, if you’re planning to go there, as soon as you get there connect your device to their Wifi (i think they have it). Or simply, don’t lose it. Getting to Getty Villa is one of the most annoying parts about it. 45+ minutes drive from central LA is usually the process.

If i lost my personal phone, it might have caused less anxiety (I can use this opportunity as an excuse to upgrade my phone, use the same Apple and iCloud accounts and simply deactivate the “lost phone”. But in my case it’s worse because I lost my work cell, and I have the obligation to make an effort to find it.
I have work tomorrow, so my poor husband would have to drop me off at my office and go there all by himself, look for the phone and possibly retrieve it. (I am 100% sure it’s there somewhere since my battery was charged enough, yet there’s no signal detected.)

It was supposed to be a good day but ended with annoyance and disappointment at myself.

anyways bye. Don’t lose your phone! Getty Villa is one of the worst and annoying place to lose your phone!

————————— UPDATE ———————

My husband went back the next day, and retrieved the phone. Apparently they found the phone on the ground around the Sun Terrace.

Had to get my husband a sorry dinner at Drago Centro.
